Building your audience gives you a consistent customer base. Your customer base may not purchase every item you put in front of them every time, however, since your audience should be part of your niche market, then there should always be a level of interest for them no matter what.
Imagine an outlet mall or a shopping center, people who frequent the stores are part of the niche. They may not buy every time they enter a store, but sooner or later they will as long as they keep coming back. This means you must keep them interested. Many businesses have various strategies to keep their core customer base interested. They do market research of all sorts. Research includes, determining the income level of your patron, entertainment interests, geographical locations, gender, race, etc... Knowing these different factors will assist you in knowing how to promote and engage with them.
Creating a community based around your own business can create a steady revenue stream. It's also important because it allows you to reach out and interact with your target audience. You get to find out what things may be changing as well as what may be consistently in demand. The more you know about your target audience, the better off you'll be.
Don't look to rush this process. You must be sincere in your interactions if you plan on being around and profitable for the long run. Newsletters, subscriptions, and free giveaways are ways to build you audience overtime. Fresh content and consistent engagement centered around the industry or niche you are part of keeps everything relative. You cannot expect to have a large following overnight. If you want to grow your audience, then it's important that you build relationships with other people who also work in your industry. Competition is a definitely a motivator, however, it doesn't have to be a barrier to your growth.
